Dr Vedran Jovic completed his PhD at the University of Auckland in 2014. His doctoral work was on the development of semiconductors for photocatalytic H2 production. From 2014 until 2019, he was a post-doctoral scientist based at the Advanced Light Source Synchrotron of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. There he worked on the solid-state physical properties of materials for solar h2 production and for use as platforms for novel physical phenomena.
His current work with GNS Science involves the development of materials and processes for electrocatalytic H2 production and for conversion of carbon emissions to higher value chemicals. Along with his applied interests in these processes, much of Vedran’s work involves fundamental synchrotron studies of the materials electronic band structure (i.e. solid-state physical properties).
I am very interested in developing scientific strategies for materials related research in New Zealand, building such strategies onto an internationally recognized level and seeing lab-based ideas pushed through to end-use.
