Biography

Paul completed his PhD in chemistry at the University of Auckland before moving to the University of Nottingham Centre for Sustainable Chemistry, where he studied organic solar cell materials. After first returning to the University of Auckland, he joined Te Herenga Waka | Victoria University of Wellington as a MacDiarmid Institute Research Fellow working in the ultrafast spectroscopy group led by Professor Justin Hodgkiss.

Research interests

Paul’s research focuses on the photophysics of light-responsive organic materials, particularly for environmental applications such as organic solar cells and photocatalysts. His work combines theoretical chemistry & photophysics, spectroscopy, and materials synthesis to guide the development of new materials.

Many of the world’s challenges can be seen as energy problems in one way or another, and combining different ways of thinking about energy materials is an exciting way to make progress.
