Justin Hodgkiss - Rutherford Fellowship

Justin Hodgkiss, one of our Principal Investigators was named as one of the 2011 recipients of the Rutherford Discovery Fellowships. Congratulations Justin.

Ten researchers awarded Rutherford Discovery Fellowships

Justin completed his undergraduate degree with a major in Chemistry at Otago University. The recipient of a Fulbright PhD Scholarship, Justin completed his PhD at MIT with Prof Dan Nocera, he then held a Post-doctoral Fellowship at Cambridge with Prof Richard Friend, before starting as a lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington in July of 2009. He became a Principal Investigator of the Institute in January 2010. In his research Justin uses spectroscopy (the interaction of light with matter) to investigate processes that occur on time scales faster than a microsecond (10-6 seconds). Such fast processes dominate much of physics and chemistry and understanding the time scales and length scales of these processes will lead to advances in for example solar cell science. More information on Justin’s research can be found on his home page.

Justin joins Eric Le Ru, also a Principal Investigator in the Institute who was awarded a Rutherford Discovery Fellowship in 2010.

Well done Justin this is an exceptional achievement and but one testament to your value as a scientist to New Zealand.
