Call for Principal Investigators 2018

Call for Principal Investigators 2018

Applications due 30 July

The MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology invites applications for Principal Investigator status, in conjunction with its 2018 Investigator review. The criteria against which applications will be assessed are:

Research Excellence: as demonstrated by publication metrics and evidence of impact as demonstrated by, for example, community engagement or commercialisation activity.

Strategic Engagement: as demonstrated by contributions (current or proposed) to elements of the MacDiarmid Institute Strategic Plan, including collaboration with institute members; scientific contributions to industry collaborations; contribution to and leadership of outreach and public engagement programmes; contribution to and leadership of our student and alumni development programmes.

A strategic priority for the Institute is the inclusion of Māori research. We particularly invite applications from Māori researchers whose Strategic Engagement contributions will be based on a track record of engagement with Māori communities.

New Principal Investigators will be appointed by 1 October 2018, and will receive annual funding for research and travel costs, and a scholarship for a MSc student (domestic fees and 20k stipend). Support for the Investigator’s research time will also be provided at 0.1 FTE, plus institutional overheads. Further financial support for research is available on a contestable basis through the Institute’s standard processes.

All applications will be assessed relative to opportunity. Applicants should generally be employed at one of the Institute’s partner organisations, but exceptional applications will be considered. All applicants are encouraged to discuss their applications with current Principal Investigators before applying. Applicants should be aware of the Institute’s Equity Policies.

Applications, consisting of a completed application form, standard format CV, and letter of support from a current PI, are to be submitted by email to by 5pm on the 30 July 2018.

The form is available here; the standard MBIE CV template is available here.
